FAQ

What goes into the investment for wedding photography?

First of all, investing in your wedding photographer is something you will never regret. You get married once and these are the memories you will have to look back on. Photographers factor multiple things into pricing their packages. To name a few: photographer's actual time at the event, equipment costs + materials needed, education + training, and editing time. If excessive edits are requested by the client, additional charges may apply.

When will we get our photos?

Editing a wedding gallery is very tedious and takes a lot of time. I ask all my clients to allow a maximum of 20 weeks for larger weddings. I hand edit each image to make sure it turns out perfectly. You will likely get a handful of sneak peek photos within the first week. You will receive a link to view your live gallery online where you can see all new photos as they are uploaded. I do upload as I edit so you are not waiting 20 weeks for all of your images. Through your gallery link, you may download your high quality images and/or order prints and other photos products.

My turn around time for lifestyle sessions is 2-4 weeks.

what does the wedding day process look like for photographers?

I like to arrive when the bridal party is getting ready. I will get detail shots of the rings, wedding decor, venue and any other sentimental items during this time. Once the bride is ready, I will pop in and take photos of the bridal party 'getting ready' and the bride putting her dress on. Ideally, there is a secondary photographer and they will grab these same photos of the groomsmen during this time. If the bride and groom are doing any 'first looks' or 'first touches', I will then take those images. This is also the time we will get the images of the bride and a first look with her bridal party and/or dad if this is something the bride and groom want to do. I then go out to where the ceremony will be taking place and find the best spot to get great images of the ceremony. After the ceremony, there is generally a 'cocktail hour'. During this time is great to get the family portraits completed. It helps if the bride and groom have a list of all of the combinations of family member photos they want taken. After this, I just follow the timeline of the wedding and get images of all the significant events and guests dancing/interacting. I take a lot of candid photos as well. If you are doing a 'send off', it's usually best to do this around 8pm before some of the guests start leaving. The night does not have to be over, but it's best to get those pictures around that time. Every wedding timeline is going to be different and I will always follow the timeline, but this is an extremely ideal schedule.

Is a secondary photographer necessary?

YES. One million times, yes. It helps everything flow so much smoother. You get several angles of different shots (this is especially helpful during the ceremony so you can have pictures both walking up and down the isle). It also increases the number of images you receive in your gallery. A secondary photographer can help with things like adjusting the brides dress and posing for pictures. It's just all in all the best way to go. I do not currently offer wedding packagers without a secondary photographer because I am a firm believer that the wedding day does not run as smoothly without one.

Where are you based and do you travel?

I live in Mount Pleasant, NC. It is easiest to say I am a Charlotte, NC based photographer. I do travel for destination weddings and elopements. Travel fees do apply and this is discussed with each client individually and depends on their needs.

how do I decide how many hours of coverage I need?

For a standard size wedding (75+ guests), I always recommend at least 8 hours. If you want pictures of you and your bridal party getting ready, pics of your family, ceremony, and then the reception - 8 hours is definitely needed. Some people want a photographer late into the night for a 'last dance' and for that, you would need a full day of coverage (12 hours). I can add additional hourly coverage to any of my wedding packages to fit your exact needs.

How many images will I receive in my wedding gallery?

I do not set a maximum amount of images you will receive as every wedding differs. The standard is about 50 images/hour of photographing for most photographers.

How do I decide how much photography coverage I need?

If you want all things captured such as getting ready photos, first look or first touch photos, family formals, wedding party, ceremony and reception, at least 8 hours is required. If you want your photographer to also be present to capture a "last dance" or a late send-off, 10-12 hours is ideal. A send-off can be staged earlier in the evening after the main reception events to limit the amount of time your photographer remains at your wedding and will also save you money on hourly costs. Please ask me how to best optimize your wedding day. I do offer timeline creation services.
